Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Wednesday (September 9, 2026) underlined Arunachal Pradesh’s strategic importance for India and said the State was an integral part of the country’s unity.

Addressing a special session of the State’s 60-member Assembly, he said Arunachal Pradesh plays a vital role in safeguarding India’s borders.

“Arunachal Pradesh has immense strategic importance, cultural richness, boundless potentiality of greenery, and above all, a great heritage. Arunachal Pradesh stands as a proud guardian of our nation’s border and is an integral part of India’s unity and integrity,” Mr. Radhakrishnan said.

“The rest of the country is safe because you are vigilant on our border, and you are protecting the border of Mother Bharat,” he said.

The Vice-President’s statement comes as New Delhi flagged “anomalies” in the United Nations’ new world map depicting Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin, two integral parts of India, as separate regions positioned between the borders claimed by India and China.

Mr. Radhakrishnan also highlighted the country’s diversity. “We have many regional voices, but we are united by a great thought… Our Constitution gives every right to everyone. At the same time, our Constitution binds us together,” he said.

India was united by the vision of ‘nation first’, and the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047, he further said.

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Kaiwalya Trivikram Parnaik, Assembly Speaker Tesam Pongte, Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, MLAs, and senior officials were present in the House.
