Navi Mumbai: A 10-bed de-addiction and rehabilitation centre established jointly by the Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate and the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) was inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday, providing integrated medical and psychological treatment for people battling drug and other forms of addiction.

The centre, established as part of the ‘Drug-Free Navi Mumbai’ campaign, will offer medical treatment, psychotherapy, counselling, yoga, meditation and exercise under one roof. The facility aims not only to help patients overcome addiction but also to support their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

Centre to provide specialised care through doctors, counsellors and trained support staff

The centre will have experienced psychiatrists, psychologists, counsellors, nurses, ward boys and security personnel. An experienced manager will oversee its operations, while staff will receive regular training and work under an effective supervision mechanism.

Patients will undergo medical evaluation and receive medication under the supervision of experienced doctors. Psychiatrists and psychologists will also assess their mental health and address issues such as fear, depression, stress and negative thoughts through psychotherapy and counselling.

Officials said de-addiction requires more than medication and must address the psychological factors associated with substance dependence. The centre has therefore been designed to provide a supportive and positive environment during treatment.

Facility focuses on holistic recovery through yoga, meditation and recreational activities

Facilities such as carrom and chess have been provided for recreation, while yoga, meditation and exercise will be used to promote mental well-being, positive thinking and physical fitness.

The Navi Mumbai Police have been combining enforcement against narcotics with awareness and rehabilitation initiatives. Through programmes such as ‘Campus Connect’, the police are also reaching out to students and young people to create awareness about the dangers of substance abuse.

"The new centre is expected to strengthen the city’s rehabilitation infrastructure by bringing together the police, municipal authorities, medical professionals, social organisations and citizens in efforts to make Navi Mumbai drug-free," Navi Mumbai police commissioner Milind Bharambe said.
