Swachhata Pakhwada-2026 Begins on Central Railway; GM CR Administers Swachhata Pledge to Officers and Staff


Central Railway launched Swachhata Pakhwada-2026 on October 2, 2026, with a series of cleanliness and awareness activities. The fortnight-long campaign will continue till October 15, while Special Campaign 6.0 will be observed till October 31, 2026.
The day also marked the culmination of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign 2026, which was observed from September 17 to October 2 across the Headquarters and all divisions of Central Railway.
Rajeev Shrivastava, General Manager, Central Railway, administered the Swachhata Pledge to officers and employees at the historic General Manager’s Building at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai.
Anoop Kumar Agarwal, Additional General Manager and Principal Chief Electrical Engineer, S K Sagar, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer, Principal Heads of Departments, Hiresh Mina, Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Division, and other officers and employees of Central Railway took the pledge to remain committed to cleanliness. They pledged to devote 100 hours a year, or two hours a week, to voluntary cleanliness activities, create awareness among people and initiate the pursuit of cleanliness with themselves, their families, localities, villages and workplaces.

The General Manager also paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation, and Lal Bahadur Shastri, former Prime Minister, at the Suburban Concourse, CSMT. He also appreciated the large rangoli depicting Mahatma Gandhi displayed in front of the Suburban lobby.
Similar activities were organised in Bhusaval, Solapur, Pune and Nagpur divisions of Central Railway. Divisional Railway Managers administered the Swachhata Pledge to officers and staff in their respective divisions. Plantation drives were also conducted under the theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”.
In Bhusaval Division, Shramdaan and other cleanliness activities were organised at various locations. Swachhata Prabhat rallies were also conducted by Railway Scouts and Guides to spread awareness about cleanliness. A group of 425 students from Adarsh Vidya Mandir, Nashik, paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi by singing bhajans at Nashik Road station as part of Swachhata Pakhwada.
In Solapur Division, Swachh Prabhat pheries carrying the slogan “Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat” were organised, with more than 130 officers, staff, their family members and members of the public participating. Shramdaan activities were also conducted at various locations across the division.
In Pune Division, Shramdaan activities were conducted at various locations. Art and cultural competitions on the theme of Swachhata were also organised, while Swachhata rallies witnessed active participation from officers and staff.
In Nagpur Division, Shramdaan activities were carried out at various locations. Swachhata rallies were also organised, with more than 150 people participating.
As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, Swachhata Pakhwada and Special Campaign 6.0, Central Railway has undertaken activities focusing on cleanliness and the systematic disposal of e-waste. The campaigns also emphasise thorough cleanliness, improved space management, workplace beautification, environment-friendly initiatives, green practices and digitisation across the network.
