Central team inspects drought-hit villages in Yadgir and Raichur

By Sohail Khan 4 October 2026, 6:31 pm

An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) visited several drought-affected villages across Yadgir and Raichur districts on Sunday to assess the extent of crop damage and evaluate the distress faced by the farming community following a prolonged dry spell this kharif season.

The three-member Central team comprised Man Singh, Director, Department of Rice Development, Patna; Partha Paul, Under Secretary, Department of Expenditure, New Delhi; and Rakesh Kumar, Under Secretary, Department of Rural Development, New Delhi. During their field visit, the officials interacted directly with affected farmers to understand the severity of the crisis on the ground.

Both the Yadgir and Raichur districts have been hit hard by acute rainfall deficits and severe soil moisture depletion. Standing crops — primarily cotton, green gram, and red gram — cultivated across lakhs of acres suffered extensive damage owing to the dry spell during key growth stages of the kharif season, pushing agricultural households into deep financial strain.

The State government officially declared these districts drought-affected after official survey reports confirmed extended dry spells and critical soil moisture depletion.

Yadgir Deputy Commissioner Rahul Pandve and Raichur Deputy Commissioner Poovitha S., along with senior officials from the Revenue and Agriculture departments, accompanied the Central team during the inspection to provide administrative data and field reports.

The IMCT’s ground assessment and feedback gathered from local cultivators will form the basis of a formal report to be submitted to the Centre for sanctioning a financial relief and assistance package under the National Disaster Response Fund.
