Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Monday (September 21, 2026) held a meeting at the Secretariat to review preparations for the Northeast monsoon and the prevention of dengue in the State.

A State government press release said the Chief Minister had directed officials to prepare a list of areas vulnerable to sea water intrusion and coastal erosion during the monsoon and ensure that weather and storm warnings reached fishermen and rehabilitation centres.

He said schools and community halls should be kept ready to accommodate people and that safe drinking water, food, and medical facilities should be made available at the centres.

Besides making arrangements to send messages through satellites, Mr. Vijay directed officials to use drones to survey roads, storm-water drains, and bridges and take up necessary maintenance work.

Revenue Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan presented the report of the Expert Advisory Committee constituted to monitor and assess the potential impact of a possible strong El Niño weather phenomenon.

The Chief Minister also stressed the need to intensify mosquito-control measures, including controlling Aedes mosquitoes and their larvae in areas reporting dengue cases, and ensuring timely treatment for patients.
