School games in Kozhikode from October 25

The 68th Kerala School Sports and Games will be held at the National Institute of Technology campus in Kozhikode from October 25 to 31. Minister for General Education N. Samsudheen, who opened the organising committee of the event on Sunday, said that it was being held in the district after a gap of 15 years. The Minister said that participation in sports and games was essential to divert the attention of students from substance abuse.
Competitions would be held in 41 categories such as athletics, aquatics, karate, wushu, yoga, shuttle badminton, basketball, netball, throw ball, softball, baseball, and tug of war. Football and cricket competitions would be held separately under a different schedule. Apart from the students in State schools, those from Kerala schools in the Gulf region too would attend the event. An inclusive sports event for differently-abled students too would be held along with this.
Meanwhile, Mr. Samsudheen brushed aside a controversy related to a reported decision of the previous Left Democratic Front government to hold the event in Kannur. The Minister said that the government had no ill-feeling towards Kannur and the district could be considered as a venue in the coming years.
