The Thamarassery police have registered a case against V.M. Valli, a former member of the Thamarassery grama panchayat, for allegedly hurting religious sentiments by sharing a Krishna Janmashtami greeting card featuring an AI-generated image of her pet dog adorned with traditional ornaments.

The case was registered against the local Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leader following a complaint by K.K. Biju, taluk secretary of Balagokulam.

The police registered the case under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage the religious feelings of a class of citizens by insulting their religion or religious beliefs. Bharatiya Janata Party leaders also demanded stringent action against the accused.
