Keralam prison officer booked for allegedly beating Kannur Central Jail inmate

The Kannur Town Police have registered a case against a prison officer following a complaint by an inmate who alleged that he was restrained and beaten at the Kannur Central Jail in Keralam.

The case was registered under Section 126(2) and 115(2) on Thursday against prison office Jishnu based on a complaint filed by prisoner Jalaludheen. The incident allegedly took place on June 30. According to the compaint, Jalaludheen and fellow prisoners were allegedly restrained and beaten afer they demanded that they be taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

The Kannur Town Police registered the case following directions from the Kannur Judicial Magistrate Court.

The development comes a day after a clash reportedly broke out between KAAPA prisoners inside the jail. Following the incident, security arrangements at the Kannur Central Jail have been strengthened.
