Social activist Anna Hazare, admitted to a hospital in Mumbai after suffering a renal infection, is recovering and will remain under care for two more days, his close aide said on Thursday (September 3, 2026).

The 89-year-old activist was admitted to Bombay Hospital in south Mumbai on Monday (August 31) night after his blood reports indicated a renal infection.

“Hazare was brought to Mumbai for renal infection treatment. He is recovering but not fully recovered. Doctors told us that he will have to stay at the hospital for two more days,” the aide said.

His health is improving, and doctors have advised him to take more rest while undergoing treatment at the hospital, he said.

Mr. Hazare is taking proper meals as advised by the doctor. On Wednesday (September 2), his associates were informed that he would remain admitted at Bombay Hospital for another two days under observation. Now his stay is extended until he fully recovers, the aide said.

On Tuesday (September 1), consultant physician Dr. Gautam Bhansali said Mr. Hazare was stable and recovering.

The anti-graft crusader was brought to Mumbai from his native Ralegan Siddhi village in Ahilyanagar district, where he had initially been admitted to a local medical facility for treatment.

He was admitted to a hospital in Ahilyanagar last week and had recovered before being shifted to Mumbai following the renal infection.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met Mr. Hazare at the hospital in Mumbai on Tuesday (September 2) evening and enquired about his health.

The Armyman-turned-activist, a Padma Bhushan recipient, has led several movements over the years to promote rural development, improve transparency in government functioning and curb corruption.
