Coal India-arm NCL output rises 67%, supplies by 75% as rains ease
Synopsis

Northern Coalfields Ltd has significantly boosted coal production and supplies. Daily output rose by sixty-seven percent as monsoon rains receded. Supplies also increased by seventy-five percent, reaching zero point three five million tonnes. This marks a strong recovery from earlier operational challenges caused by heavy rainfall. The company is now intensifying efforts to maximize production and strengthen coal evacuation.

New Delhi: Coal India arm Northern Coalfields Ltd has increased coal production as monsoon rains ease, with daily output increasing by 67 per cent to 0.30 million tonnes (MT) and supplies up 75 per cent to 0.35 MT on September 8, the company said.



The September 8 figures compare with rain-affected daily averages of 0.18 MT for production and 0.20 MT for supplies recorded during September 1 to September 3.



"NCL's total coal production for FY 2026-27 stood at 51.43 MT, while its supplies reached 55 MT till 8th Sept, marking a significant recovery from the operational challenges posed by heavy rainfall," Coal India Ltd (CIL) said in a statement.

Around 87 per cent of NCL's total coal supplies are directed to the power sector.



The company's rake loading through Indian Railways rose to 41 rakes on 8th September 8, compared with an average of 19 rakes per day during 1-3 September. NCL's major coal supplies are directed to the power plants in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.



With the monsoon receding, NCL is further intensifying efforts to maximise production and strengthen evacuation by making optimal use of available resources. The focus is on converting improved mine conditions into higher production, faster dispatch and more dependable coal supplies, it said further.
