Bihar man held on charge of murdering wife in Bengaluru

A man allegedly murdered his wife following a fight at their rented house in south Bengaluru’s Bilekahalli on Wednesday and attempted to pass it off as an accidental death by pouring hot cooking oil on her face, the police said.
The deceased has been identified as Gunja, 38. The Mico Layout police have arrested Ranjit Kumar, 41.
The couple, from Bihar, have been living in Mico Layout since December 2025 along with their children, aged 11 and seven. The couple had frequent quarrels over domestic issues for the past three months, according to the police.
Ranjit picked up a fight with Gunjan on Wednesday morning when the children where in school. the police said. He allegedly strangled her with a veil, causing her death. An investigator told that the couple had fought on Tuesday and Ranjit escalated it the next morning.
“Ranjit attempted to pass it off as an accidental death, feigning innocence in front of his neighbours. However, the house owner filed a death under suspicion case, and subsequent questioning revealed Ranjit’s role,” the officer said.
The police have filed an FIR against Ranjit under BNS Section 103(1).
