Adidas begins layoffs at India Tech Hub in Gurgaon, over 350 employees affected

Adidas has initiated layoffs at its India Tech Hub in Gurgaon. Approximately 350 employees, including engineers and data scientists, are affected. Adidas has begun layoffs at its India Tech Hub in Gurgaon, with an estimated 350 or more employees affected, media reports said on September 16. The reported job cuts affect nearly half of the hub's workforce of around 700 and include software engineers, data scientists and data engineers.

The layoffs were announced to employees during a town hall on September 15, according to the report. Adidas has confirmed that it is reducing roles within its Technology organisation in India but has not disclosed the number of employees affected.

The reported cuts represent around 45-50% of the workforce at the Gurgaon tech hub.

Employees were divided into two groups

The affected employees were divided into two groups, according to the report. One group received exit letters on September 15, while the second group has been asked to continue until December 15.

Employees in the second group are expected to complete handovers to colleagues at other technology hubs while looking for other roles within Adidas. Those who do not secure another role by December 15 have reportedly been told that it will be their last working day.

The details of the severance package, notice pay or redeployment support being offered to affected employees could not be confirmed.

Adidas confirms technology job cuts

Adidas confirmed the reduction in roles in a statement to independent media platform Wocult, but did not reveal the scale of the layoffs.

"As part of our ongoing efforts to align our operating model with the evolving needs of the business, we have made the difficult decision to reduce a number of roles within our Technology organization in India. These changes are intended to simplify parts of our organization, strengthen critical capabilities, and position adidas for long-term success in a rapidly evolving business and technology environment," the company said in its statement.

"We are deeply grateful to our colleagues for their many contributions to adidas. We are committed to supporting affected employees with care, respect, and appropriate transition assistance during this time. India remains a strategically important market for adidas, and our Technology Hub continues to play a critical role in enabling the company's growth, innovation, and digital transformation ambitions," the statement read.

Adidas did not confirm the number or types of roles affected in its statement.

Adidas' Gurgaon office houses its local marketing organisation and one of its Global Engineering Tech Hubs. The company has expanded its broader operations in India in recent years, including opening a Global Business Services centre in Chennai in 2024.
