Kollam Corporation to kick off 10-Day ‘Onaravam’ celebrations on August 20

Kollam Corporation’s annual Onam celebrations ‘Onaravam’ will feature a ten-day lineup of cultural programmes starting Thursday (August 20, 2026 ). Local Self-Government Minister K.M. Shaji will officially inaugurate the festival at the C. Kesavan Memorial Town Hall at 3.30 p.m. on the opening day. The inauguration ceremony will be chaired by Mayor A. K. Hafeez, with Ministers Shibu Baby John, Bindhu Krishna, and P. C. Vishnunadh in attendance alongside N. K. Premachandran MP and Vishnu Mohan MLA.

The festivities will continue on August 21 at the Corporation Office with a series of cultural performances staged by councillors and employees. A colourful cultural procession is scheduled for 4 p.m. on August 22, departing from Asramam Link Road and proceeding to C. Kesavan Memorial Town Hall. The parade will showcase diverse art forms, including Thrissur Pulikali, Shinkari Melam, Kummattikali, traditional orchestras, floats, static displays, and performances by school and college students.

Every evening throughout the festival, Kollam Beach will host live musical shows and cultural programs. The ten-day event will officially conclude on August 30 at 7 p.m. at Kollam Beach with ‘Nattarang’, a traditional folk art presentation by Alappuzha IFTA.
