Congress will return to power with 117 seats, says CM

By Sohail Khan 18 August 2026, 8:29 pm

Asserting that the Congress government will come back to power with 117 out of the 119 assembly seats in the State, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has sought the cooperation of all sections of society, especially the weaker and marginalised sections, in ensuring continuation of his government for uninterrupted delivery of welfare and developmental schemes.

The Chief Minister who unveiled the statue of freedom fighter Sardar Sarvai Papanna Goud here on Tuesday sought to outline the differences between the people-centric governance of the Congress and the “family-centric rule” of the previous BRS government.

BRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao made his son K.T. Rama Rao as his party’s working president and the Congress made Mahesh Kumar Goud as TPCC president. Mr. Rao’s son and son-in-law T. Harish Rao became Ministers during the BRS rule while MLAs from Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Tribes like Ponnam Prabhakar, Vakiti Srihari, Danasari Anasuya alias Seethakka and Konda Surekha were made Ministers in the Congress government, he said.

Mr. KCR’s relative B. Vinod Kumar who was defeated in the elections was made planning board chairman, while his daughter was made MP and MLC. The Congress however gave MLC seat to M. Kodadaram and made grand daughter of Chakali Ilamma and Sankaramma, mother of Srikantha Chary who sacrificed his life for Telangana’s cause, members of the Women’s Commission. “Mr. K. Chandrasekhar Rao with feudal mindset did justice to his family. The Congress is firm on social justice,” he said.

The BRS president’s family members owned farm houses spread over hundreds of acres and the Congress Government was constructing houses for poor through Indiramma Indlu. “The government which does not have a firm resolve direction will have no direction. This is your government and take a judicious decision,” he said recalling how the previous government denied people entry into the Pragati Bhavan.

The Congress government, on its part, implemented a spree of welfare programmes and took the initiative for SC categorisation and BC caste census in spite of facing financial constraints because of repayment of principal and interest for huge loans obtained by the BRS government.

The Chief Minister took a dig at the BRS leaders charging them with indulging in rituals against the interests of farmers. “Aghora Rao has gone to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka for performing such pujas,” he said in an indirect reference to a top BRS leader.
