After Gachibowli building collapse, Cyberabad civic body orders demolition of unauthorised under-construction structures

Days after the collapse of a multi-storey building in Kondapur that killed two people, the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has ordered the demolition of certain unauthorised under-construction buildings as part of an intensified enforcement drive. The Town Planning and enforcement teams have been directed to identify violations based on plot size, construction height and building permissions.

Plots measuring below and over 75 square yards

The CMC Commissioner G. Srijana has instructed officials to identify buildings on plots measuring below 75 square yards where construction exceeds seven metres in height. Buildings on plots measuring above 75 square yards that are being constructed without any building permission will also be identified, irrespective of the height of the construction.

All under-construction buildings falling under these two categories will be taken up for demolition through enforcement drives, the CMC said.

Citizens complaints or suo motu

The Commissioner has directed officials to identify such cases irrespective of the source of detection. The constructions may be identified either through citizen complaints or through suo motu detection by the field teams concerned.

The number of demolitions carried out under these categories will be monitored on a daily basis from Monday (August 24, 2026) to ensure continuous enforcement and accountability, the CMC said.
