    Tamil Nadu chief minister C Vijay Joseph on Monday announced its flagship Annapoorani Super Six scheme, a major initiative to provide LPG cylinders to households. This was one of the key welfare promises made by Vijay during his election campaign.

    Under the scheme, the Tamil Nadu government will provide six free LPG cylinders to every eligible family every year. The aim of the scheme is to reduce the household expenditure of the families.

    "This will reduce the burden of the people who have been spending extra amount to obtain the cylinders. The government has decided to provide the cost of the cooking gas cylinders," said chief minister Vijay in Tamil Nadu Assembly.

    Annapoorani Super Six Scheme provisions

    Families in Tamil Nadu will receive six free LPG cylinders every year under the Vijay government's new initiative.

    The government will provide three free cooking gas cylinders to every family in the initial phase of the scheme.

    Subsequently, the price of cylinders will be credited directly into the bank account of the beneficiaries, CM Vijay said.

    When will Annapoorani LPG Scheme be rolled out

    The scheme is expected to be launched by January 2027, after the harvest festival of Pongal, the chief minister announced. "The preparatory work has commenced," he said.

    An amount of ₹4,000 crore will be allocated for the Annapoorani LPG cylinder scheme every year.

    Who can avail Annapoorani Super Six Scheme

    As many as 1,30,16,104 families will benefit from Annapoorani Super Six Scheme.

    Those who can avail the LPG scheme of the Tamil Nadu government include, families with annual income of nearly ₹2.5 lakh, economically backward, small and medium farmers families, differently abled and poor families.
