Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar on Monday (August 24, 2026) directed members of the House and the media not to publicise notices given in writing under Rule 55 of the Assembly Rules and motions for adjournment under Rule 56 until they are admitted by the Speaker.

He said some members, after submitting written notices to the Speaker and the Assembly Secretary on issues they sought to raise in the House, were releasing them to the media and on social media. “They also post them on their X pages and other social media accounts. This is not allowed under Rule 36(5),” he said, and requested the media to desist from publishing them before they were approved by the Speaker.

As per Rule 36(5), “a notice shall not be given publicity by any member or any other person until it has been admitted by the Speaker and circulated to the Members.”
