Tamil Nadu government yet to request Centre to shift airport site from Parandur: Union Minister of State

The Tamil Nadu government is yet to request the Central government to change the site of the proposed second airport for Chennai in Parandur, said Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol in response to a question raised by DMK MP P. Wilson in the Rajya Sabha.

Parandur airport in Chennai scrapped by CM Vijay: What was the project?

He said the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) granted in-principle approval to Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited (TIDCO) in April 2025. In the application submitted by TIDCO in September 2024, the estimated project cost for Phase I was nearly ₹10,500 crore, he said.

He also added that the responsibility for the implementation of such airport projects, including acquiring land and funding and obtaining environment clearances, lies with the airport developer concerned or the State government. Land acquisition for the Parandur airport project has been paused by the Tamil Nadu government now, and so far, no official Government Order has been released for dropping the project.
