Mira-Bhainder:- In a recent exposé published by the daily newspaper Loksatta on October 3, 2023, startling revelations have come to light regarding the development projects in the city of Bhayandar. The article sheds light on the progress of 50 proposed development projects and how only a mere three of them have seen the light of day. Here are the key findings:
- State Approval for Development: The State Government had granted a whopping 3,000 crores in funds for the development of Bhayandar city. These funds were secured at the behest of the local MLAs, Pratap Sarnaike and Geeta Jain. While 47 projects were initiated, not all have received direct funding approval. Several projects have faced technical hurdles and remain pending. Notably, the foundation stone for 179 crore worth of projects was laid by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde himself.
- Role of Local MLAs: Both Geeta Jain and Pratap Sarnaike, who represent the ruling party in the city, have been actively advocating for these development projects. Geeta Jain recommended 31 projects, while Pratap Sarnaik suggested 19, leading to various ground-breaking ceremonies for a wide range of initiatives. The Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, has personally overseen the allocation of the 3,000-crore budget to the Municipal Corporation.
- Development in Progress: The approved funds are slated to be used for numerous projects, including new roads, parks, lakes, headquarters buildings, hospitals, sports facilities, community centers, and more. However, several projects are yet to receive direct funding due to bureaucratic obstacles.
The City Engineer’s Perspective:
The City Engineer, Deepak Khambit, has provided additional insights into the situation. He reveals:
- Progress on Approved Projects: Out of the 44 projects approved in the State Government’s jurisdiction, work orders for 35 have been issued to contractors, with one project already completed. Work on the remaining 31 projects will commence soon after the monsoon season.
- Geeta Jain’s Projects: In Geeta Jain’s jurisdiction, out of 35 approved projects, work orders have been issued for three, with the rest to follow after the tendering process. All projects in both jurisdictions will receive 100% funding from the government.
- Infrastructure Upgrades: A significant part of the funds will be allocated for revamping existing infrastructure, including the relocation of the Municipal Corporation’s new headquarters and improvements to existing buildings and maps.
In conclusion, the publication of these findings raises questions about the pace and efficiency of development projects in Bhayandar. While significant funds have been allocated, bureaucratic hurdles and technical challenges have hindered the progress of many vital initiatives. It remains to be seen how quickly these obstacles can be overcome to ensure the city’s much-needed development moves forward.
