Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Inaugurates Special Public Toilets for the Third Gender

Navi Mumbai :- Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, known for its unwavering commitment to cleanliness, continues to pioneer innovative initiatives in the city. In a significant move, they have unveiled a special public toilet exclusively for the third gender community in Kopar, as part of their “Cleanliness is Service” program. The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of prominent third-gender individuals including Anita Wadekar, Meera Pujari, Kalpana Pujari, Berlin, and Ada Jha.

Across the entire Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation area, 313 public and 297 community toilets have been constructed under the “Cleanliness is Service” program. All these toilets are visible on Google Maps, not only making it convenient for residents but also for travelers and tourists seeking restroom facilities nearby.

Recognizing the importance of the third gender community in society, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has consistently included them in cleanliness efforts and various social initiatives. The “Let’s Celebrate Fitness” organization has played a significant role in these endeavors.

Located in the Kopar division of the Turbhe department within the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation region, the demand for independent restrooms for the third-gender community was significant due to their substantial presence. These newly inaugurated special public toilets are designed to address this need.

In a notable gesture of inclusivity, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has set an example by allocating funds for male restrooms for the third gender as per natural processes. This approach ensures that third-gender individuals who predominantly reside in specific areas have access to independent public restrooms. A total expenditure of approximately 9 lakhs has been incurred to establish 8 restroom facilities, a move that has been well-received by the third-gender community.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s commitment to providing equal services to all segments of society and addressing the unique needs of the third-gender community through the construction of special public toilets is indeed commendable.
