Telangana Congress Seva Dal organsies satyagraha, seeks CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Seva Dal on Monday (October 5, 2026) organised a one-day satyagraha at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad alleging that constitutional institutions and democratic values were under threat due to the actions of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Central government.
The protest was led by Telangana Pradesh Congress Seva Dal president Middela Jitender, who demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. Adviser to Government on welfare V. Hanumanth Rao also participated in the Satyagraha.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Jitender alleged that the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was used to remove the names of eligible voters, particularly those from poorer sections of society. He claimed that the exercise undermined citizens’ voting rights and posed a serious threat to the democratic process.
The Congress leader accused the Election Commission of failing to function independently and alleged that it acted in a manner that benefited the ruling BJP at the Centre. He contended that the CEC had not remained impartial and weakened the constitutional spirit by allegedly supporting the government’s agenda.
Mr. Jitender also launched a broadside against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that their policies and actions eroded democratic institutions and constitutional values. He claimed that both leaders had lost the moral authority to continue in office and should step down.
Reaffirming the Congress party’s commitment to Gandhian principles, Mr. Jitender said the Seva Dal would continue to defend democratic rights through peaceful and non-violent means. He warned that the party would further intensify its agitation, under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud., against what it termed anti-people policies.
The protest witnessed the participation of a large number of Seva Dal leaders and workers from across the State, including members of the State executive, district presidents, constituency presidents and mandal-level office-bearers, who extended their support to the Satyagraha and voiced concerns over the SIR process and the functioning of the Election Commission.
