Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) recorded significant growth in coal transportation during the first half of the current financial year ending September 30, supplying higher quantities of coal to consumers and thermal power stations across Telangana.

The SCCL transported 299.4 lakh tonnes of coal during the first six months of the current financial year, compared to 287.6 lakh tonnes during the corresponding period last year, registering a growth of 4%.

Reflecting its focus on meeting the State’s energy needs, SCCL supplied 198.2 lakh tonnes of coal to Telangana’s thermal power stations, a 24.58% increase over the 159.1 lakh tonnes supplied during the same period last year.

Among individual plants, coal supply to Kothagudem Thermal Power Station rose from 26.4 lakh tonnes to 39.8 lakh tonnes, a growth of 50.76%. Supplies to Yadadri Thermal Power Station increased by 57.67% from 21.5 lakh tonnes to 33.9 lakh tonnes, while Bhadradri Thermal Power Station received 24.4 lakh tonnes, up 25.13% from 19.5 lakh tonnes last year.

Coal transportation to Singareni Thermal Power Station stood at 26.6 lakh tonnes, registering a growth of 27.27%. Supplies to NTPC Telangana increased from 19.4 lakh tonnes to 25.3 lakh tonnes. However, coal supplies to NTPC Ramagundam marginally declined to 42.7 lakh tonnes from 43.5 lakh tonnes during the corresponding period last year.

The SCCL attributed the enhanced supplies to special measures taken in view of El Nino conditions and the need to ensure uninterrupted power generation in Telangana. Acting on directions from the State and Central governments, the company coordinated closely with power sector agencies to boost coal production and transportation.

SCCL Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti has been reviewing production and transportation targets on a daily basis with area general managers, while five senior officials have been assigned to monitor coal movement to thermal power stations.

Dr. Jyoti said SCCL considers meeting Telangana’s power requirements a responsibility beyond commercial considerations and is working in a planned manner to achieve its annual targets of 620 lakh tonnes of coal production and 650 lakh tonnes of coal transportation.
