Opposition INDIA bloc MPs on Tuesday (October 6, 2026) are expected to go ahead with a planned protest march from the Parliament to the Election Commission of India (ECI) headquarters in New Delhi in protest of alleged “vote theft” and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. This comes amid a series of nationwide campaigns against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over 

Security arrangements were heightened around the Election Commission headquarters in the national capital, officials said. Security has also been stepped up at key points in New Delhi in view of protest calls issued by different organisations over the SIR exercise, they said.

The INDIA bloc leaders are expected to also meet President Droupadi Murmu to raise concerns over the SIR exercise. The protest call was issued after a meeting of 19 opposition parties on September 30. The principal Opposition party is also likely to reach out to other parties outside the INDIA bloc, like the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Aam Aadmi Party, and invite them to join the planned protest march.
