The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is expanding its digital services to make it easier for members to access important information. The EPFO has now asked its members to join its official WhatsApp channel, where they can get the latest updates and other useful information related to their provident fund account.

An EPFO social media post on X (formerly Twitter) has clarified that by joining this WhatsApp channel, employees can get the latest updates.

EPFO's official website also directs its members towards information on services such as EPF Advance, EPF withdrawal, UAN activation, claims and transfers, KYC and pension-related services.

The EPF scheme covers employees earning up to Rs15,000 per month (mandatory), offers retirement savings, tax-free interest growth, employer contributions and family security, and provides key features such as a 12% contribution rate, online passbook access, easy account transfer, nomination facility and withdrawal options.

Many banks offer Whatsapp services

Many banks in India now offer Whatsapp services and allow you to securely check balances, download statements, manage cards and request services 24/7 directly through the messaging app. You must send a 'Hi' from the mobile number registered with your bank.

In May, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) was reportedly preparing to launch its services on WhatsApp.

A PTI report quoting Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had said that the EPFO had planned to use WhatsApp as the platform was widely used by mobile phone users across the country.

How EPF WhatsApp service will work

Under the proposed service, EPFO members will simply need to send a 'Hello' message to the EPFO's verified WhatsApp number, identified by a green tick, to start interacting with the EPFO.

EPFO members will also have the option to receive EPFO-related updates directly on their registered mobile numbers. The communication will be available in local and regional languages so that users can interact more comfortably in their preferred language, the report said.
