Today, WTC Mumbai stands as an enduring testament to his remarkable foresight, dedication and institution-building legacy,” said Capt. Somesh Batra, Vice Chairman, MVIRDC World Trade Center Mumbai while paying tribute to Late Sheshrao Krishnarao Wankhede on his 112th birth anniversary here at World Trade Center, Mumbai.

Ms. Ramola Mahajani, daughter of Late Sheshrao Wankhede, fondly remembered her father as a man of determination, discipline and action. She said, “My father firmly believed that institutions must be built with a long-term vision and should continue to serve society for generations. Whether in public service, trade or sports, he was driven by a strong commitment to Maharashtra’s progress. It is a matter of great pride for our family to see World Trade Center Mumbai carrying forward his vision even today. On his 112th birth anniversary, it is heartening to see his legacy being remembered and, more importantly, carried forward through the institutions he helped create.”

Late Sheshrao Krishnarao Wankhede (1914–1988) was a freedom fighter, lawyer, statesman, cricket administrator and visionary institution builder who made a lasting contribution to Maharashtra’s public and economic life. He served in several important public positions, including as Finance and Industry Minister and Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, and represented India at the United Nations General Assembly. As the Founder President of MVIRDC World Trade Center Mumbai, he played a pivotal role in establishing the institution and advancing its mission of connecting Indian industry with global trade and investment opportunities. His contribution to sports was equally significant, with Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium bearing his name in recognition of his contribution to cricket administration.
