Uttar Pradesh to go slow on UCC?

Despite Home Minister Amit Shah’s push to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) across NDA-ruled states by 2029, Yogi Adityanath’s government in Uttar Pradesh may strategically delay its rollout until after the 2027 Assembly elections. The move is aimed at preventing narrative polarisation that could benefit the opposition Samajwadi Party (SP). The SP strongly opposes the code, with Akhilesh Yadav branding it an “Underground Communal Conspiracy”. Implementing the UCC now could consolidate the crucial Muslim-Yadav demographic behind the SP. Delaying the legislation could help ensure that the upcoming electoral battle remains focused on development and governance rather than emotive religious issues.

India slams Pakistan at UN over Kashmiri Pandit exodus and use of terror

In a sharp Right of Reply at the UN Human Rights Council, India slammed Pakistan for allegedly arming and training terrorists responsible for the 1990 exodus of Kashmiri Pandits. Indian diplomat Kshitij Tyagi highlighted what he described as the irony of Islamabad demanding a human rights inquiry while cross-border terrorism has killed thousands of Kashmiris across faiths.
