Suspected extremists killed two Naga civilians in Manipur’s Senapati district on Saturday (September 26, 2026), barely 48 hours after Myanmar-based assailants gunned down four people in Kamjong district.

District officials could not confirm how the two Naga men, identified as Rocky Mao of Chowainamei village and Kumar Poumai of Laii Shirafii village, were killed or what led to the incident.

Naga-dominated district

Senapati is a Naga-dominated district. One of the deceased is a Mao Naga and the other is a Poumai Naga. Two others injured — Ashiho Sani and Adani Manio — belong to the Mao Naga community.

The injured were rushed to a private hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to Senapati District Hospital for autopsy and other legal formalities.

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh was in Senapati district on an official visit when reports of the killing came in. He attended the silver jubilee celebration of a missionary school in Mao, which borders Nagaland.
