The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) has stopped the salaries of its Group A and Group B officers for failing to process a former employee’s pension and other retirement benefits.

According to an official letter made public on Wednesday (September 23, 2026), these officers’ salaries would remain frozen until further orders.

The salary freeze followed a September 9 order of the High Court of Tripura, seeking action against all TTAADC employees and officers, except those in the Group C and Group D categories, until the retirement-related matter was resolved.

The order was based on a petition filed by a former TTAADC employee, who claimed that his pension and other retirement benefits amounting to ₹16.03 lakh were not processed after his superannuation on January 31, 2025.

The council argued that it could not release the amount unless the State Finance Secretary facilitated the release of the funds. The State counsel told the court that the autonomous TTAADC has its own funds and does not require permission from the Finance Secretary to release the retirement benefits.

The court directed the TTAADC Chief Executive Officer, the Finance Secretary, and the district treasury officers to examine the matter and take necessary steps.

Chaitanya Murti, the Chief Executive Member of the TTAADC, said the council issued an order on September 17 withholding the salaries of all Group A and Group B officers until further orders.

The High Court is scheduled to hear the matter again on October 5, a week after the elections to the 587 village committees under the TTAADC are scheduled to be held.

The Tipra Motha Party, an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party, governs the TTAADC. The regional party won 20 of the council’s 28 seats in the April elections. EOM
