Tamil Nadu Speaker to decide on former AIADMK MLA Esakki Subaya’s resignation withdrawal plea after Budget session

Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar on Friday (September 4, 2026) said the representation submitted by former AIADMK MLA Esakki Subaya seeking to withdraw his resignation from the House was under his consideration and he would announce his decision shortly.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai, the Speaker said he would take an appropriate decision on Mr. Subaya’s representation seeking withdrawal of his resignation from the Tamil Nadu Assembly after the ongoing Budget session of the House.
The comments from the Speaker came against the backdrop of Mr. Subaya, who was elected from Ambasamudram in the 2026 Assembly election and later resigned his membership of the House on May 26 to join the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), telling the Madras High Court recently that he had approached the Speaker seeking withdrawal of his resignation.
Mr. Prabhakar also said the Assembly had been functioning efficiently with the cooperation of members from all political parties.
