Study material on Narayana Guru’s life, writings and social contributions will be incorporated into school and college text books, said Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Madhu Bangarappa here on Saturday.

Paying glowing tributes to Narayana Guru on the occasion of his Jayanthi celebrations in Mysuru on Saturday, Mr. Bangarappa said it was the collective responsibility of society to take the contributions of the great personality, who propagated human values, to future generations.

Mr. Bangarappa said Sri Narayana Guru was a spiritual leader and social reformer, who realised that education was essential for people to live with dignity and respect.

Born in Kerala, Narayana Guru gave the revolutionary message to ‘Make schools bigger and the pomp of temples smaller’, he said while adding that he also made efforts to convey to the world that education that creates awareness was superior to blind beliefs and superstitions.

Chamaraja Assembly constituency MLA K. Harish Gowda said Narayana Guru worked to eliminate discrimination, untouchability and superstitions from society and strove to build an egalitarian society based on the principle of “One caste, one religion, one God.”

Along with constructing temples, Narayana Guru’s primary objective was to build schools and give the highest priority to the acquisition of knowledge, Mr. Gowda said.
