Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court has allowed two medical students to appear in the Main University Examination after they were earlier barred from taking the examination in connection with an assault case at a medical college hostel in Ratlam.

A division bench comprising Justice Subodh Abhyankar and Justice Alok Awasthi passed the order on Tuesday in petitions filed by Dr Pankaj Chouhan and Dr Sardar Goutham Singh against the State of Madhya Pradesh and officials of Dr Laxminarayan Pandey Medical College, Ratlam.

The students had challenged an August 10 order under which they were barred from appearing in the Main University Examination, although they had been permitted to take the supplementary examination.

The action followed their alleged involvement in a case arising from an incident on March 4, 2026, during Holi celebrations.

According to the High Court order, a car allegedly driven negligently by a person identified as Rajat Ali had hit other students of the Medical College Hostel, Ratlam, which later lead to a group clash.

During the hearing, counsel for the appellants also drew the court s attention to a video clip of the incident.

Considering the circumstances, the High Court directed that the appellants be permitted to appear in the Main University Examination and complete the necessary procedural formalities. The court also stayed the August 10 order until the next date of hearing.

However, the court clarified that the final examination results of the students will remain subject to the final outcome of the appeal. The matter has been directed to be listed after four weeks.

The order does not finally decide the underlying allegations or the students appeal; it grants them interim relief allowing them to sit for the Main University Examination pending further hearing.
