A major landslide triggered by continuous rainfall caused extensive damage in Rimbi village under the Yuksom-Tashiding constituency of Sikkim’s West district last night, washing away houses, government quarters and other properties. No loss of life has been reported so far.

Nepal forecasts heavy rain, warns of floods and landslides

Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across parts of the country from September 25 to 27, warning of rising rivers and streams, flash floods, landslides, debris flows and inundation. Authorities have advised people to avoid unnecessary long-distance and nighttime road travel and urged travellers to avoid trekking and high-altitude areas, as the weather could also disrupt road and air services.

Punjab man attempts suicide inside police station, alleges bribe demand

A man allegedly consumed poison inside a police station in Barnala after accusing a police official of demanding money for a copy of a DDR related to his car fire, PTI reported. Jobanpreet Singh was hospitalised and is undergoing treatment, while police said he was under stress over a land dispute and had consumed the substance while waiting at the station.

Cockroach Janta Party demands CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has demanded Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation within 48 hours and announced a nationwide “Fix the Election Commission” campaign over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. It also called for an independent probe into SIR decisions, a halt to exclusions and greater transparency in the Election Commission’s processes. This comes after revealed that Election Commissioners Vivek Joshi and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu have objected to SIR-related decisions made without their knowledge and obvious procedural flaws at least 14 times in a ten-month period.

Goa CEO says 97 voters left out of final roll being processed separately

Goa CEO Sanjay Goel said 97 voters left out of the final electoral roll after the Special Intensive Revision are being processed separately through house-to-house visits by booth-level officers. He said many have since been enrolled, while the remaining cases are being processed.  The statement came a day after that Goa officials had repeatedly sought a rollback option from the Election Commission to reverse deletions but did not receive it before the final roll was published. The final roll had deleted 1.27 lakh voters, or 10.76% of the pre-revision electorate.
