California Governor Gavin Newsom lists his $7.5 million Sacramento-area mansion: Inside the 8.2-acre Fair Oaks estate with 7 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, tennis court and 5,000-bottle wine cellar
Synopsis
California Governor Gavin Newsom has listed his sprawling 8.2-acre Fair Oaks mansion for $7.5 million, months before his second term ends in January 2027. The luxury estate features seven bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, a tennis court, swimming pool, gym and a 5,000-bottle wine cellar. Newsom and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, moved into the Fair Oaks residence in 2019.

California Governor Gavin Newsom is putting one of his most luxurious homes on the market, listing his sprawling Fair Oaks estate for $7.5 million just months before his second term as governor comes to an end.
The Sacramento-area mansion, where Newsom and his family have lived since 2019, sits on 8.2 acres near the American River and comes with an extraordinary list of amenities, including a swimming pool, full-size tennis court, gym, game room and a 5,000-bottle wine cellar.

The property was listed Monday through Sotheby’s International Realty agents Matthew Hindy and Nick Sadek.
Newsom reportedly paid $3.7 million for the home in late 2018, shortly after winning his first term as California governor. If the property sells for the asking price, he would make about $3.8 million more than he originally paid.

Inside Gavin Newsom’s sprawling Fair Oaks mansion
The Spanish-style estate is designed around a Santa Barbara-inspired residence measuring roughly 12,600 square feet.
Set behind a gated driveway, the home features beige stucco walls, a terracotta roof and expansive landscaped grounds that provide the property with a secluded feel.

Inside, a grand entry foyer opens into rooms with high ceilings and exposed wooden beams. The home includes a fireside living room with sliding glass doors, a wet bar and formal dining room.
The bright kitchen features an eat-in island and butler’s pantry, while a breakfast nook and family room provide additional spaces for everyday family life.
The primary suite is tucked away for privacy and includes two walk-in closets. Its large bathroom features two showers, two water closets and a travertine soaking tub.
Luxury amenities include a tennis court and wine cellar
The property goes well beyond the typical luxury home. An outdoor wellness area includes both a cold plunge pool and hot tub, while the grounds feature a swimming pool and full-size tennis court.
Inside, there is a study lined with bookshelves, a game room and a gym.
Perhaps one of the home's most notable features is its 5,000-bottle wine cellar. There is also a separate guest casita equipped with its own kitchen, offering visitors a private space away from the main residence.

Newsom and his family previously called the property home
Newsom and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, moved into the Fair Oaks residence in 2019 after briefly living at California's historic governor's mansion in Sacramento.
At the time, a spokesperson described the Fair Oaks estate as being “more kid-friendly”, according to the Sacramento Bee.
The family has since divided its time between Sacramento and Marin County, where the Newsoms also own property. In 2024, their children were enrolled in Marin County schools, adding to the family's gradual shift toward the Bay Area.

The Fair Oaks property has also been connected to several political moments during Newsom's time in office.
In 2020, protesters chained themselves to the property's fence while demonstrating against rising deaths in California prisons during the coronavirus pandemic. In 2024, the mansion again attracted attention when Newsom hosted a political fundraiser there for Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who was campaigning as the Democratic vice-presidential candidate.
Sale comes as Newsom's political future draws attention
The timing of the sale has inevitably fueled speculation about Newsom's next move.
Newsom is openly considering a campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028. His second term as California governor is scheduled to end in January 2027, meaning the sale comes only months before his departure from the governor's office.
For now, the $7.5 million Fair Oaks listing offers a glimpse into the private residence that served as the Newsom family's Sacramento-area home for years.
If the mansion achieves its asking price, Newsom would walk away with a substantial gain on a property he purchased for $3.7 million in 2018, adding another notable chapter to the governor's transition toward life beyond Sacramento.
