Fisherman who told sister he feared for his life found dead on Visakhapatnam beach; murder suspected

A 30-year-old fisherman was found dead on a beach at Kotha Jalaripeta under the One Town police station limits in Visakhapatnam on Monday (September 7, 2026). The police suspect he was murdered.

The deceased was identified as Mylapalli Chanti, a native of Bhogapuram mandal in Vizianagaram district and a resident of Paindorapeta. He worked as a fisherman in the city.

According to preliminary information from the police, Chanti had gone to his sister Appalakonda’s house at Kotha Jalaripeta on Sunday night. He was reportedly frightened and told his sister that he feared he would be killed. She comforted him and asked him to stay at her house for the night.

Although Chanti initially agreed and went to sleep, he reportedly left the house some time later without his sister’s knowledge. His body was found on the beach the following morning.

The police said that a preliminary examination of the body revealed bruises around the neck, suspected to have been caused by strangulation, as well as a severe injury to the head. The nature of the injuries raised suspicion of murder.

The CLUES team visited the scene and collected samples, which are being sent for forensic examination. The body was sent for post-mortem examination.

Three special teams have been formed to investigate the case.
