Elvis Presley’s favourite meal is still served at this Texas drive-in and you can even order it today
Synopsis
From 1958 to 1960, Elvis Presley dedicated time to military service in the US Army, frequently making stops in Waco, Texas. During these visits, he had a penchant for dining at Cupp's Drive-Inn, where he favored a particular double cheeseburger topped with bacon. Today, this iconic diner continues to serve Elvis's cherished dish, attracting both locals and tourists eager to dine like the King.

Elvis Presley, American singer and actor widely known as the "King of Rock and Roll", served in the US Army for a period of two years, from 1958 to 1960. During that time, he was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, and used to frequently visit nearby Waco, now more known for Baylor University and all things Magnolia given the glow-up driven by Chip and Joanna Gaines.
Elvis Presley, then a young soldier training at Fort Hood, often frequented Cupp’s Drive-Inn in the back seat of family friend Eddie Fadal’s Cadillac, ordering double cheeseburgers with bacon. Elvis regularly retreated on weekends and days off to Waco during the sixth months of his army training in 1959. Fadal, a former DJ who met Elvis on one of his earliest tours to Texas, built an addition onto his house to accommodate his friend whenever he visited Waco. Willie Nelson, from nearby Abbot, has also been known to eat at Cupp’s since it first opened its doors.

Cupp’s Drive Inn still serves cheeseburger with bacon
Still serving his go-to meal, Cupp’s Drive Inn, a classic pull-up-and-order eatery with limited seating, still serves Elvis Presley's go-to meal. The place has held onto the juicy, double-patty cheeseburger with bacon Elvis would indulge in during his visits to Waco, typically pulling up in a Cadillac with his pal Eddie Fadal.
Prices have certainly gone up since the ’50s, but by today’s standards, the burgers are still a bargain. The restaurant remains a local favorite among college students, longtime residents and visitors stopping by the nearby must-visit Magnolia Market.

Recent customers have called them “the best cheeseburger I’ve had in a long time,” while another longtime patron wrote, “Been eating here for 55 years. The best burger in the Waco area.”
With a near-perfect 4.8-star rating on Google, the old saying “don’t judge a book by its cover” seems to fit the place perfectly. One reviewer admitted, “This place was fantastic. We rolled up to this place, thought it was a piece of junk, borderline thought we were in the ghetto. We walk in, awesome service, amazing food.”
Elvis’ favorite order was a double cheeseburger with bacon, and fans can still recreate it today by adding bacon to Cupp’s Double Double. The total comes to $10.49—a pretty reasonable price for a taste of history at this timeless hole-in-the-wall.

Who is Elvis Persley?
Elvis Aaron Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977) was an American singer and actor. Elvis Aaron Presley was born to Vernon and Gladys Presley in a two-room house in Tupelo, Mississippi, on January 8, 1935. His twin brother, Jessie Garon, was stillborn, leaving Elvis to grow up as an only child. He and his parents moved to Memphis, Tennessee, in 1948, and Elvis graduated from Humes High School there in 1953.
In 1954, Elvis began his singing career with the legendary Sun Records label in Memphis. In late 1955, his recording contract was sold to RCA Victor. By 1956, he was an international sensation. Elvis Persley starred in 33 successful films, made history with his television appearances and specials, and knew great acclaim through his many, often record-breaking, live concert performances on tour and in Las Vegas. Globally, he has sold over one billion records, more than any other artist. His American sales have earned him gold, platinum or multi-platinum awards.
Among his many achievements were 14 Grammy nominations (3 wins) from the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award which he received at age 36, and his being named One of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Nation for 1970 by the United States Jaycees. Without any of the special privileges, his celebrity status might have afforded him, Elvis honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. Elvis died at his Memphis home, Graceland, on August 16, 1977. He was 42.
