Education reforms should draw strength from philosophical thought while responding to changing needs of the society, Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G.P. Raja Sekhar said at the Teachers’ Day 2026 celebrations organised by SRM University-AP.

Prof. Raja Sekhar referred to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s concept of ‘Abheda’ and examined its relevance to contemporary education. He drew parallels between Radhakrishnan’s philosophical outlook and the National Education Policy (NEP), particularly in the context of the National Credit Framework.

Prof. Raja Sekhar stressed that teamwork, adaptability and innovation were essential qualities for those taking up leadership responsibilities and underlined the need for educators to evolve with changing academic and social environments.

SRM University-AP Vice-Chancellor CH Satish Kumar, recalling the life and legacy of Dr. Radhakrishnan, spoke about the profound influence teachers had on his intellectual and personal development. Tracing Dr. Radhakrishnan’s journey from his formative years as a student, Prof. Satish Kumar highlighted how the guidance of teachers at different stages shaped his outlook and lasting respect for the teaching profession.

Prof. Raja Sekhar presented the University Outstanding Faculty Awards 2026 to nine faculty members for their contributions to teaching, research and institutional development. The awardees were Dr. V.M. Manikandan, Dr. Ayesha Parveen Haroon, Dr. Manjesh Kumar, Dr. Elakkiya E, Dr. Priyanka, Dr. Siddhartha Ghosh, Dr. Debajyoti Kundu, Dr. Anuj Deshpande and Dr. Ramanjaneya Reddy.

Dr Manikandan was recognised for his work in artificial intelligence, machine learning and student mentorship, while the other awardees were honoured for contributions spanning psychology, advanced and sustainable manufacturing, network security, computer vision, teaching and research, environmental science, institutional development, power electronics and renewable energy.

Prof. V.S. Rao Foundation–Prof. H.P. Tiwari Best Faculty Award 2026 was presented to Dr Manikandan, while Five-Year Service Awards were also presented to 18 faculty members, besides the Popular Faculty Award.
