Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao described the Congress government’s nearly 1,000 days in office as a ‘criminal waste’, alleging failures across sectors and in implementing its promises. He also said the party would step up its fight against the alleged misrule and mount pressure on the government.

Releasing a ‘chargesheet’ against the Congress government at Telangana Bhavan along with former Minister and BRSLP deputy floor leader T. Harish Rao and several other senior leaders, Mr. Rama Rao accused the government of presiding over what he described as destruction, corruption and administrative failure.

“The Congress promised to show heaven in 100 days. Instead, the people have been subjected to oppression for 1,000 days,” he said, alleging that the government had failed in sectors, including agriculture, education, irrigation, health and employment.

Mr. Rama Rao alleged that large tracts of agricultural land had been placed on the prohibited list, creating difficulties for farmers and landowners. He also accused the government of corruption and alleged that commissions were being collected for resolving land-related issues.

The BRS leader questioned the implementation of the Congress’s promises to farmers, including Rythu Bharosa and farm loan waiver.

Referring to sharing of Godavari and Krishna waters between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, he accused the Revanth Reddy government of failing to protect State’s interests. “The BRS would not compromise on Telangana’s water rights,” he promised.

Taking aim at the government’s handling of irrigation projects, he alleged that the government had failed to address problems relating to irrigation infrastructure and questioned its approach towards projects constructed during the BRS regime.

Mr. Rama Rao also alleged that there was an attempt to install electricity meters for agricultural motors in the name of reforms and added that the BRS would oppose any move that adversely affected farmers.

On employment, he accused the Congress and its national leadership of failing to fulfil promises made to unemployed youth. He said the BRS would raise the issue of the promised two lakh jobs and the unemployment allowance during the Assembly session beginning on September 7.

The BRS would continue its fight for unemployed youth and students, he said.

Mr. Rama Rao also raised concerns over education policies, alleging that the government was weakening the school and university education system.

He said the party would continue its protest until the GO 97 relating to Polytechnic colleges is scrapped.

Former Minister T. Harish Rao said the Congress government had failed to effectively implement the six guarantees and alleged that institutions and key sectors in Telangana were being weakened. The main Opposition has announced a week-long programme of protests and other activities to mount pressure on the government.
