Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) president Anbumani Ramadoss has demanded stringent action against all those involved in the alleged sexual abuse of minor girls from poor families in Chennai, referring to the POCSO Act case involving Gem Granites founder R. Veeramani, and sought that the investigation be expedited.

In a statement on Thursday (September 24, 20266), Dr. Anbumani said the reports emerging in connection with the case involving the businessman were shocking. He alleged attempts had earlier been made to protect those involved despite evidence of sexual abuse being available.

He said all those involved should face stringent action, irrespective of their status. If required, the sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act should be altered based on the findings of the investigation, he said.

Those who allegedly assisted in the abuse and those who attempted to close the case should also be brought before the law, he said, adding that separate cases should be registered, if necessary, and the investigation expedited.

Dr. Anbumani said evidence in the case had been submitted to the police on October 6, 2025, but a petition seeking permission to close the case for lack of sufficient evidence was filed before the Chennai POCSO Special Court on February 18. He appreciated the court for its approach towards ensuring justice for the affected children.

Paddy procurement

In a separate statement, Dr. Anbumani urged the Tamil Nadu government to immediately procure the more than six lakh bags of paddy reportedly lying at procurement centres in Cauvery delta districts, including Tiruvarur and Thanjavur. He said delays in transporting procured paddy and a shortage of workers were affecting procurement and warned that forecast rain could cause losses to farmers.
