Around 450 kg of gutka was seized at a police check post in Kariyamangalam village near Chengam town in Tiruvannamalai on Tuesday.

The police said that based on orders of the Superintendent of Police R. Uthayakumar, a special team conducted a surprise check at the check post on Cuddalore–Chittoor Highway.

When the team tried to stop a speeding car, the driver of the car plunged the vehicle into a nearby pit and fled the spot. They found 450 kg of gutka in the car. The police seized the vehicle and the consignment. Special teams have been formed to nab the driver and vehicle owner. A case was registered by Chengam police and a probe is under way.
