Man held for alleged loan fraud in Kochi

A 44-year-old man was arrested by the Njarackal police on Sunday (August 16, 2026) for allegedly misappropriating ₹89 lakh through a loan fraud at a cooperative society where he was employed. The arrested is Anoop C.J., a resident of Malippuram, Elamkunnapuzha, and a gold appraiser at the Karuthedam Rural Service Cooperative Society.
He allegedly misused his position to record that the bank had accepted 1,565.9 grams of gold as collateral between January 2014 and June 2024, issuing loans against the fake pledges. Police sources said they were also probing his other financial dealings.
