HYDERABAD

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has condemned the government action of removing the statue (bust) of party leader and former MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy at Narsampet in Warangal district, where it was installed on a private land with the land owner’s permission, without issuing any notice.

Party working president K.T. Rama Rao said in a statement that the Revanth Reddy government had proved its sadistic attitude by removing the statue of Sudarshan Reddy overnight. He said being in power was not permanent to anybody and termed the statue removal as a Tughlaq act. He said they would name the Narsampet medical college after Sudarshan Reddy after coming back to power.

Speaking to newspersons here on Tuesday, former ministers Errabelli Dayakar Rao and Satyavathi Rathod, former MP B. Vinod Kumar, former MLAs Gandra Venkataramana Reddy and Challa Dharma Reddy blamed the Congress party for the removal of the statue out of its political petty mindedness.

They sought to know how the government would remove a statue of a leader whose funeral was conducted with official honours and it was installed with the land owner Vidyasagar’s permission, and after intimating the District Collector and Commissioner of Police on the installation of the statue.

The BRS leaders stated that they would visit Narsampet on Wednesday and would install Sudarshan Reddy’s statue in every village in Narsampet constituency. They demanded that the removed statue must be installed in the same place and name the Narsampet Medical College after Sudarshan Reddy.

They pointed out that NTR’s statue was unveiled in Ameerpet by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and whether it had permission. There were several statues in between the roads across the State obstructing the movement of vehicular traffic and whether the government was planning to remove all such statues. Sudarshan Reddy’s statue was installed in a private land beside the medical college and it was removed at the behest of sitting Congress MLA Donthi Madhava Reddy, they alleged.
