Mumbai, Maharashtra: This Raksha Bandhan, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will host a special exhibition and sale featuring rakhis made by women’s self-help groups (SHGs) and Divyang students from BMC special schools.

The initiative has been organised on the initiative of Minal Turde, Chairperson of the BMC Women and Child Welfare Committee, with the aim of encouraging women’s self-help groups and providing a market for their products. The initiative is being implemented through the BMC Planning Department.

A special exhibition and sale will be held at the BMC Headquarters on August 24, 2026, from 10 am to 6 pm. Similar exhibitions will also be organised at all BMC administrative department and ward offices on August 24 and 25, from 10 am to 6 pm.

Citizens visiting the exhibitions will be able to purchase a range of products prepared by women’s self-help groups, including attractive eco-friendly rakhis, homemade food items, decorative products and handicrafts.

The exhibition aims to promote the skills, hard work and financial independence of women’s self-help groups by providing them with a platform to display and sell their products during the festive season.

Rakhis Made By Divyang Students To Be Displayed

A special attraction of the exhibition will be rakhis creatively designed and handmade by Divyang students from BMC special schools. These rakhis will also be available for display and sale at the exhibition.

According to the civic body, the initiative will provide the students with a platform to showcase their creativity and skills, while encouraging their confidence and artistic talents.

Special Stall At BMC Headquarters

A dedicated stall will be set up at the BMC Headquarters on August 24. Stalls will also be made available at the civic body's various departmental and ward offices during the two-day exhibition.

The BMC has appealed to Mumbaikars to visit the exhibition at the headquarters or their nearest BMC office and purchase products made by women’s self-help groups and Divyang students.

The civic body said the initiative seeks to support the economic self-reliance of women’s SHGs while encouraging and providing a platform for the creativity and talents of Divyang students.
