Australia-India Education Ties: 22-Member Australian Delegation Visits Mumbai For Higher Education Partnerships

A 22-member Australian higher education delegation is in Mumbai this week as Australia looks to strengthen education ties with India, expand student mobility and build new partnerships between institutions in the two countries.
The delegation, comprising representatives from Australian universities, higher education institutions and school boards, is visiting Mumbai from August 18 to 21, 2026, as part of Austrade’s Higher Education Week 2026.
The mission is being led by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), Australian Government, with support from Invest and Trade Western Australia, Government of Western Australia.
Australian delegation at IC3 conference
As part of its Mumbai visit, the delegation participated in the 10th Annual IC3 Conference and Expo, where Australian institutions showcased their education offerings at the Australia Pavilion.
The delegation is also holding engagements with Indian universities and schools during the visit. These interactions are aimed at giving Australian institutions a better understanding of the changing aspirations of Indian students while identifying areas for academic collaboration, student pathways and institutional partnerships.
The discussions come at a time when student mobility remains an important part of Australia-India education engagement, with Australian institutions continuing to promote study opportunities across a wide range of disciplines.
India a valued education partner
Speaking about the delegation’s visit, Vik Singh, Trade and Investment Commissioner, Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), said India remains an important education partner for Australia.
“India is an important and valued education partner for Australia. This delegation visit reflects our commitment to further strengthen the education ties with India,” Singh said.
He added that participation in the IC3 event would help Australian institutions engage more closely with students and the wider education community in India.
“We want Indian students to see Australia not simply as a study destination, but as a place where they can discover their future self through world-class education, practical experience and global career opportunities,” Singh said.
Higher Education Week continues
The visit is the second leg of Austrade’s Higher Education Week 2026 mission. Before arriving in Mumbai, the delegation met students, schools and universities in Pune on August 16 and 17.
