Max Thieriot’s 90-acre California ranch is far from a typical celebrity home with a working Pinot Noir vineyard, ocean views and rolling land where his family built a wine legacy
Synopsis
In 2013, actor Max Thieriot and his wife purchased a sprawling 90-acre ranch in Sonoma County. They dedicated nine acres of this beautiful land to create Bodega Thieriot, a Pinot Noir vineyard that resonates with Thieriot's childhood memories of winemaking. The California ranch is much larger than a typical celebrity home with a working Pinot Noir vineyard, ocean views and rolling land.

A few years after the huge property was bought, Max Thieriot and his wife began turning part of the land into a vineyard, creating Bodega Thieriot
Actor Max Thieriot and his spouse Lexi bought a roughly 90-acre ranch in west Sonoma County, California, in 2013, and the property is a treat to watch. The unusual California ranch has a nine-acre Pinot Noir vineyard, ocean views, redwoods, family history and a connection to Sonoma's wine country. The ranch is located between Bodega and Occidental near where Max Thieriot spent his childhood.

The property has since become closely connected to Thieriot’s family history, winemaking interests and life away from Hollywood. He grew up on a separate vineyard property in Occidental that his parents purchased in the 1980s. His own ranch is a newer family property, but farming grapes has been part of his life since childhood.

A location in west Sonoma County, between Bodega and Occidental
There are no reliably published details on the home's square footage, bedroom count or interior design. The landscape also made the ranch suitable for something beyond a private residence. The land's combination of hills, woodland and coastal conditions provided the setting for Thieriot's later move into winemaking.

The ranch became a Pinot Noir vineyard
In 2016, the couple began planting part of the ranch with winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown. The vineyard was named Bodega Thieriot and covers about nine acres of the much larger property.

The landscape also made the ranch suitable for something beyond a private residence
That means only a small portion of the roughly 90-acre ranch is planted with vines, leaving substantial areas of the property as natural landscape, hillside and pasture. The choice of Pinot Noir also connects the ranch to the broader winemaking history of the Sonoma Coast.
Rather than simply attaching a celebrity name to a bottle, Thieriot's vineyard project was developed as part of his family's longer relationship with wine. Thieriot has recalled spending his childhood on the property and riding tractors with his father while he worked in the vineyard.

The property is not known for a large celebrity-style residence. Details such as the size of the house, number of bedrooms and interior features have not been publicly reported. The purchase price has also not been disclosed.
Thieriot has often spoken about his childhood on the family vineyard and the time he spent working alongside his father. Recalling those years, he said, “I spent my entire childhood there,” describing how he would ride a tractor with his father while he worked among the grapevines. He has also mentioned having an old photograph of himself and his father farming grapes together.
His mother and sister continue to live in the area, keeping the family’s longstanding connection to west Sonoma County alive even as Thieriot and his immediate family now spend much of their time elsewhere.
Where does Max Thieriot live now?
Although the Sonoma ranch remains an important family property, it is no longer the family's primary day-to-day base.
Thieriot and his family have been based in Washington state, closer to where his CBS drama Fire Country is filmed.
That means the California ranch now serves a different purpose. Rather than being the family's everyday residence, it remains a place connected to Thieriot's roots, vineyard and time away from filming.
The move also highlights why the property is better understood as a family ranch and working vineyard than simply a celebrity home.
