Three newborns were killed after a massive fire broke out at a district hospital in Maharashtra's Amravati. The fire erupted in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) on the third floor of the hospital at around 3.30 am, news agency ANI reported.
An evacuation operation was reportedly launched by doctors, nurses and other staff on duty. The hospital staff managed to rescue several infants from the ward. As many as six infants have been shifted to a super specialty hospital for further treatment.
A video of the hospital ward showed charred remains of the equipment and blackened walls.
A police team reached the spot and launched preliminary investigation. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
