Vasai-Virar :– In response to the rising cases of Dengue and Malaria in the region, the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation’s Health Department has devised a comprehensive strategy to prevent the spread of these diseases. The civic body is urging all citizens to follow the guidelines mentioned below to curb the outbreak:
Source of Dengue and Malaria:
- The breeding of Dengue and Malaria mosquitoes occurs in stagnant, unclean water.
- Mosquitoes can also breed in discarded tires, coconut shells, flowerpots, old refrigerator trays, and air coolers.
Preventive Measures:
To combat the spread of these diseases, the following preventive measures are recommended:
1. Regular Cleaning:
- Clean and maintain all water containers at least once a week. Remove any debris and keep them covered.
2. Reduce Water Accumulation:
- Ensure that containers used for water storage have proper lids, and fix any leaks.
3. Proper Waste Disposal:
- Discard unused items that can collect rainwater and become breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
4. Window Screens:
- Install window screens to prevent mosquitoes from entering homes. Use mosquito nets while sleeping.
5. Dress Appropriately:
- Dress children in full-sleeved clothing to reduce exposure to mosquito bites.
6. Use Mosquito Repellent Cream:
- Apply mosquito or insect repellent creams to exposed skin areas.
7. Report Stagnant Water:
- Inform local health centers about any areas with stagnant water where mosquito breeding might occur.
8. Avoid Self-Medication:
- Do not take non-prescribed pain relievers like Aspirin or Ibuprofen, as they can worsen the symptoms if you contract Dengue.
9. Seek Medical Attention:
- If you experience any symptoms of Dengue or Malaria, do not delay seeking medical attention. Visit the nearest primary health center for diagnosis and treatment.
The Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation emphasizes the importance of collective efforts to combat Dengue and Malaria. By following these guidelines and taking proactive measures, citizens can help reduce the risk of these diseases in the region. The cooperation of all residents is crucial in keeping the community safe and healthy.
