The Coimbatore police have imposed a temporary ban on DJ parties in the city. Operators of bars and clubs in Coimbatore have been instructed to comply with the restriction until further directions.

Senior officers said that the restriction was imposed after the police found that some of the FL3 and FL2 licensed bars and clubs in the city were conducting such parties without intimating the police.

Instances of violence have also been reported in such events, which organisers failed to report to the police promptly. An FL2 licensed club near Peelamedu was sealed on Tuesday (September 8, 2026) following a clash between two groups.

The restriction on conducting DJ parties was intimated to operators of bars and clubs in the city at separate meetings organised for them on Tuesday and Wednesday (September 9). Coimbatore City Police Commissioner N. Kannan and other senior officers addressed them. They instructed the operators to ensure strict compliance to various instructions.

The temporary ban on DJ nights is expected to reduce the footfall at pubs and clubs in Coimbatore city that conduct such parties on weekends and on other occasions like festival days.

A police officer said that most of the star-category hotels with FL3 licence in the city organise DJ parties after obtaining prior permission from the police. However, some of the new entrants to the business were found to have been organising such parties without police permission.
