Navi Mumbai :- In the wake of the monsoon season, Mr. Rajesh Narvekar, the appointed commissioner for cleanliness, has directed efforts to enhance cleanliness in the city of Navi Mumbai. He recently visited various locations within Belapur, Nerul, Vashi, Turbhe, and Koparkhairane to boost the effectiveness of sanitation initiatives. Joining him were additional commissioners, Mrs. Sujata Dhole, Chief Engineer Sanjay Desai, Dr. Babasaheb Rajale, Deputy Chief of Solid Waste Management, Dilip Nerakar, Additional Chief Engineer Manoj Patil, and Shirish Aradwad.
Following the monsoons, substantial growth of weeds and debris on the streets, as well as the intrusion of trees onto roadways, became apparent in several areas. To address these issues, the Urban Gardening Department, under the guidance of the commissioner, will intensify efforts to clear roadways and trim overgrown trees. This directive will also involve pruning and trimming the branches of roadside trees, ensuring road safety and cleanliness.
In response to the persistent road sweeping efforts, dust and fine soil remain on the curbsides and have accumulated on the pavements due to the regular street cleaning activities. To tackle this, the commissioners have suggested a special focus on cleaning in specific commercial areas. They’ve recommended keeping the areas in front of stores clear of dirt and debris, and have even advocated for the placement of two additional trash bins for dry and wet waste outside businesses.
Sanpada’s Game Zone, recently built near the Uddanpool area, offers a unique recreational opportunity to the residents of Navi Mumbai. The commissioners have emphasized the importance of cleanliness and maintenance in this area, in addition to encouraging children playing there. Special attention will be given to enhancing the park facilities and providing the children with the necessary infrastructure. The appointment of trainers to offer various sports coaching is also under consideration.
The newly constructed Ecological Park near Sanpada is a unique project that has gained national attention. The park’s transformation with seasonal changes and the adaptation to the digital age have caught the eye of the commissioners. They have recommended the utilization of new technology to adapt the park’s features according to the seasons and to meet the requirements of the digital era.
Moreover, the extensive growth of urban forests in several areas, similar to Sanpada, has been acknowledged. This offers an opportunity to develop these areas as green spaces while maintaining ecological diversity. The commissioners will also explore the feasibility of utilizing treated tertiary water from the Sanpada sewage treatment plant for the gardens in the city, which could lead to significant water savings.
During their visit to various locations, the commissioners stopped and inspected the areas, emphasizing the need for enhanced cleanliness. They recommended maintaining a higher standard of sanitation. By doing so, they aim to provide Navi Mumbai residents with a cleaner and more pleasant experience and show tourists the uniqueness of the city’s cleanliness. This collective responsibility has made it clear that the Municipal Corporation of Navi Mumbai is taking a proactive approach in maintaining cleanliness.
Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar has set a new standard for sanitation in the city and has urged everyone to stay vigilant and maintain consistency in their efforts to keep Navi Mumbai clean. The strides towards achieving a cleaner and more vibrant city are now the shared responsibility of the municipality and its residents, ensuring that the city’s uniqueness is well-preserved.
