A 28-year-old software engineer working in Gurgaon died by suicide at Noida's Supernova building on Saturday. A court had ordered him to pay his former wife Rs 15 lakh in alimony after their divorce.
Alongside the alimony order, the techie was also carrying a Rs 30 lakh loan taken to cover his son's medical treatment. The child had been born prematurely and needed extended hospital care, and police say this combination of payments had left him under heavy financial strain in the weeks before his death. He lived in IMT Manesar and worked for a private company in Gurgaon, a routine that had continued even as his personal life and finances came under pressure.
What led to the breakdown of his marriage
According to Sector 126 SHO Sumnesh Kumar, the techie's marriage ended in separation a few months after his son was born. The child's premature birth and the medical complications that followed appear to have come at the same time as the relationship was falling apart, adding strain on both fronts at once.

The separation eventually led to a court ordering him to pay his former wife Rs 15 lakh in alimony, to be settled in two instalments. Of this amount, the techie had already paid Rs 7-8 lakh. The remaining instalment was due the following month, meaning the payment was still pending at the time of his death. Police say this looming deadline was one of several pressures weighing on him in his final weeks.
What other debts was he dealing with
Separate from the alimony, the techie owed around Rs 30 lakh, money he had borrowed from friends and family to pay for his son's treatment in the neonatal intensive care unit. The child had spent about a month there after being born prematurely, and the bills from that stay formed the bulk of this debt. Police say he had been trying to repay this amount gradually, on top of meeting the court ordered alimony.
What did he tell people close to him before his death
Police have been going through WhatsApp conversations between the techie and his father. In one exchange, the father asked him to come back home. SHO Kumar said, "His father insisted he return home, but he refused. He said he would repay all the debts first." Investigators see this as a sign of how focused he was on clearing what he owed, rather than turning to his family for support during this period.
Where did he stay in his final days
The techie left his home in IMT Manesar around three days before his death and stayed at hotels in different parts of the city. He later checked into an Airbnb at Noida's Supernova building, arriving alone on Friday afternoon. He ordered food that evening and spent the night there by himself, with no one else present in the apartment.
What happened on the day he died
On Saturday morning, a team of air conditioning mechanics working in a nearby flat noticed the techie standing on the balcony railing of his unit. They tried to talk him into stepping back. He told them he was depressed, and soon after, he fell from the 41st floor of the building.
What have police recovered and what are they saying
Two videos linked to the incident have been recovered so far. One was filmed by a resident in another tower and shows the fall itself. The other was recorded by one of the technicians and captures their attempt to reach out to him in the moments before. Police have also inspected the scene and gathered evidence from within the building as part of their investigation.
What are police investigating now
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from Supernova and the surrounding area to trace the techie's movements in the days leading up to the Airbnb check in. His bank records, loan details and chat history are also being studied to build a complete picture of his final weeks. SHO Kumar confirmed that the techie's family has not filed a complaint, and the probe into his financial dealings and communications is continuing.
