Telangana Assembly’s monsoon session LIVE Sept 12: Debate over Section 22A land issues to be taken up today

The sixth day of the Telangana Assembly’s monsoon session is likely to be intense, as a short discussion on ‘Issues related to Section 22A of the Registration Act’ was scheduled to be taken up in the House on Saturday (September 12, 2026). ‘Effects of El Niño – Remedial Measures’ is another subject for short discussion.
People have been raising concerns over their lands or other properties being categorised in the prohibited properties list under Section 22A. The Opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have been raising the distress faced by people due to the issue.
On Friday (September 11, 2026), BRS leaders K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao alleged that the Congress rule was centred around lands and that was the reason why the extent of lands in the prohibited list under Section 22A of the Registration Act had increased from 16 lakh acres during the previous government to 1.16 crore acres now. A large number of 22A victims from areas in and around the city poured their woes following the inclusion of their lands in the prohibited list during an interaction held by the party.
BJP leaders walked out of the Assembly at the beginning of the monsoon session demanding the issue be included in the session’s agenda. A week ago, they organised ‘Maha Dharna on Bhu Bharathi and Section 22A’ in the city demanding a judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court judge into alleged irregularities in the inclusion of private and agricultural lands in the prohibited properties list.
